According to the Virginia State police there were no traffic deaths in Northern Virginia over the July 4 holiday. From July 3 through July 8, 13 people did lose their lives in Virginia traffic accidents but none were from our local area.

Last year,twenty-two people died in traffic crashes during the four-days surrounding Independence Day. Amazingly, nine of the 13 deaths this year involved people who were not wearing safety belts. About 25% of the deadly accidents involved alcohol.

Note from Virginia personal injury attorney Ben Glass:it is a good thing that there were less deaths this year than last. It is almost unbelievable to me to see how many people still do not use safety belts. My sense is that the use of alcohol while driving is decreasing.
