A man from North Carolina
was recently indicted on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for a car
accident on Interstate 95 in Dale City in
which the victim died of the personal injuries he sustained.
A trial date has been set in November for 39-year-old Spring
Hope, North Carolina
resident Philander Yardley Jordan.
According to a criminal complaint on file at Prince Williams
Circuit Court, Jordan
was the driver of one of the cars involved in an April 28 two-car accident on
I-95. According to the complaint, the two cars collided on the southbound side
of the highway shortly before 8:30 p.m.
Virginia State Trooper Aaron Adams wrote in the complaint
that Jordan
showed signs of being drunk, including “red, glassy eyes,” slurred speech, and
being unsteady on his feet. The complaint says that his blood-alcohol content
was measured at 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08. He was charged with
driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
The other vehicle’s driver, Silver
Spring, Maryland resident Michael
Nioungou, received transport to Fairfax
Inova Hospital
for treatment for the serious personal injuries he sustained, but died there at
around 5 a.m. the following morning.
Charges of voluntary manslaughter were then filed against Jordan. He is
scheduled to enter a plea to the charge in Prince William Circuit Court on
November 13.
