A frequent question that arises after a car accident is: when should I see the doctor?

The answer is: you should see a doctor as soon as you need one!

Flippant? Maybe. Here's the point: you cannot make a decision about health care based on the fact that you may have an accident claim. In other words, you don't go to a doctor just because you may have a claim to make. You go to a doctor if you need a doctor.

On the other hand, you can't expect an insurance company to pay for your medical visits if you claim you were hurt in the accident and you wait three months to go to the doctor. That's a "gap" that, in Northern Virginia at least, would be deadly to the claim.

Oh, and one other thing. Don't be calling a lawyer to ask the lawyer whether you should see a doctor or which doctor you should see. Northern Virginia judges have called that the "kiss of death" to your claim.
