But the greatest danger to a cyclist, by far, is that the dog will cause a cyclist to crash. Dog bites may be painful and unpleasant, but are rarely serious, even when they require a trip to the emergency room. Dog-cyclist crashes, on the other hand, frequently result in injuries that are very serious indeed. They're also exceedingly common -- probably more common than serious dog bites.
