A report out of Indiana today reveals that three premature infants have died at Methodist Hospital after being given an adult size dose of a blood thinner.
What is not being reported is how the legal system will compound this tragedy.

MSNBC has the story on the Indiana medical malpractice horror. According to the published reports several babies became ill, and three have died, after a pharmacy technician accidentally stored adult doses in the neonatal unit's drug cabinet.

This medication error should not be occurring in 2006. Apparently its not the first time it's happened at this hospital.

While the published reports have the hospital promising to compensate these families for this devastation, there is no doubt that that the hospital will fight mightiliy to be protected by Indiana's notorious medical malpractice "cap."

Ostensibly designed to protect the "high cost of medicine" these caps will now limit the family's recovery to the shockingly low amount of $750,000.

These are the "real cases" that the politicians never talk about when promoting "medical liability reform."
