A man from Kanawha
County, West Virginia
has filed a medical malpractice suit alleging that he lost his right testicle
because of a physician who misread a CT scan.
The suit was filed against radiologist Dr. J. Anton in the Circuit Court of Kanawha County
by Jonathan Crawford on July 25.
According to the suit, on April 21, 2006, Crawford was a patient in the
Charleston Area Medical Center Emergency Room, where he had gone complaining of
pain in his abdomen.
A CT
scan was performed, which was read by Anton, reporting mild ileus and normal
appendix, according to the suit.
Two days later, Crawford returned and received a diagnosis
of right testicular infarction. A surgical procedure was immediately performed
to remove his right testicle.
The suit alleges negligence on the part of Anton for his
failure to refer Crawford for further testing. According to Crawford, he
endured unnecessary annoyance and inconvenience, emotional distress, medical
expenses, pain and suffering, and the loss of his right testicle.
