Alaska personal injury attorney Michael Schneider has a great example today of how an injured victim's trust ended up costing him. According to Mike, the Allstate rep "earned" the victim's trust with their "you don't need a lawyer, you'll do just fine with us" mantra.
The problem is that in dealing with an adjuster, the information is usually flowing only one way--you to them. The adjuster has interviewed thousands of claimants, this is your first claim.
Try asking the adjuster a few questions:
(1) Can I have a copy of your insured's statement?
(2) How much insurance is available to cover my injuries?
(3) Will you advance funds because my doctor bills are piling up?
I'll bet you won't get a lot of info from the adjuster with those questions (and I have plenty more).
Look, you don't need a lawyer in every case but you should be armed with good information about automobile accidents and the whole "tort reform" issue.
If you live in Virginia, you should probably get my free book Five Deadly Sins That Can Wreck Your Car Accident Case, before signing any forms or giving statements to the insurance adjuster.
